Mission Families

Westland adapted the Sea King around mission packages rather than a single battlefield role.

Mission familyRepresentative marksCatalog context
Maritime anti-submarineHAS.1, HAS.6Shipborne naval marks used sensors and variant-dependent torpedo or depth-charge armament for anti-submarine work.
Airborne surveillanceAEW / ASaC.7Later Royal Navy surveillance marks extended the family beyond the original anti-submarine role.
Commando liftHC.4, Mk4, Mk4+Commando Sea Kings served with 845 and 846 NAS for Royal Marines lift, supply, and battlefield support.
Search and rescue / utilityHU.5, Mk41Older UK and German aircraft became relevant to Ukraine as donated rescue, transport, and utility helicopters.
Variants

Westland Sea King designations split the family by mission: naval anti-submarine marks, airborne early-warning and surveillance marks, commando-lift aircraft, search-and-rescue or utility conversions, and export configurations.
