Direct proof of use
The United Kingdom announced on 23 November 2022 that the first delivery of Sea King helicopters had arrived in Ukraine after Royal Navy training for Ukrainian crews and engineers. The UK described the aircraft as a search-and-rescue capability for Ukraine during Russia's invasion.
BBC News later flew aboard one of the UK-donated Sea Kings in southern Ukraine and reported that Ukrainian crews were using the aircraft for casualty rescue, troop movement, equipment transport, and reconnaissance. The reporting separated the transfer from operational use by describing the aircraft already in Ukrainian service.

Transfer and sustainment timeline
The first British Sea Kings reached Ukraine by late November 2022, following a six-week training program in the United Kingdom for ten Ukrainian crews and associated engineers. That delivery made the type part of Ukraine's wartime helicopter fleet during the full-scale phase of the 2014 Russia-Ukraine War.
Germany announced in January 2024 that it would provide six Sea King Mk41 multi-role helicopters from Bundeswehr stocks, with spare parts and additional equipment including cargo nets, cargo hooks, and winches for search-and-rescue work. Germany's public delivery list later recorded six Sea King Mk41 helicopters with spare parts among military support delivered to Ukraine, and Norway announced spare-parts support for operating and maintaining the German-donated aircraft.

Operational role
In Ukrainian service, the Sea King filled utility and maritime-support roles rather than a strike role. The BBC account described low-level flight in southern Ukraine, crew scanning for threats, and battlefield tasks that included picking up casualties, moving special forces, carrying equipment, and searching for downed pilots.
German defense commentary framed the Mk41 as a naval multi-role helicopter suited to search and rescue, special-forces employment, boarding operations, transport of personnel and materiel, and reconnaissance over water with radar and AIS sensors. That official role description matches the documented Ukrainian use pattern: mobility, rescue, and reconnaissance support for Ukraine, backed by foreign-donated airframes and sustainment packages.
