The High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, better known as the HMMWV or Humvee, is an AM General 4x4 light tactical vehicle family used for troop movement, command, ambulance, cargo, air-defense, and weapons-carrier roles. Its conflict record spans coalition service in Afghanistan and Iraq, Yemeni M1097A2 stocks, and large-scale U.S. assistance to Ukraine, including up-armored HMMWV-UA/UAH designations.

Role in Conflicts

Role in conflict
Partner-force troop transport and patrol mobility

During 2014 Operation Inherent Resolve, coalition reporting said about 900 Humvees were delivered to Iraqi troops and police in 2017, and DVIDS imagery documented Iraqi Security Forces using Humvees around Mosul during the CJTF-OIR campaign against ISIS.

Role in conflict
Iraqi troop transport and patrol mobility

In the 2013 War in Iraq, coalition reporting said about 900 Humvees were delivered to Iraqi troops and police in 2017, and DVIDS imagery documented Iraqi Security Forces using Humvees in Mosul during the final anti-ISIS campaign.

Ukrainian Field Adaptations

Ukrainian service adds a conflict-specific adaptation layer to the HMMWV family. Public reporting describes armored M1114 UAH vehicles, local repair and armor work, and a HMMWV-mounted AMULET or Stugna-P paired anti-tank launcher associated with the 1st Special Purpose Brigade named after Ivan Bohun. The anti-tank launcher reports support fielded integration, but they do not establish how many vehicles were converted or whether the layout became a serial modification.

Armored aid lane

U.S. and Ukrainian reporting identifies armored Humvees and M1114 UAH vehicles among Ukraine's wartime HMMWV fleet.

Anti-tank adaptation

Militarnyi documented AMULET on a HMMWV chassis; Defense Express described a paired Stugna-P launcher on a modified HMMWV and assessed it as probably AMULET.

Evidence limit

The open sources support a documented Ukrainian installation, not a confirmed fleet-wide standard configuration.

Configuration Logic

The HMMWV is a vehicle family rather than a single fixed combat load. Source material documents the same basic 4x4 platform as a cargo carrier, troop carrier, ambulance, armament carrier, TOW platform, and air-defense chassis.
