The Hunt class is documented in the 2003 Iraq War through HMS Brocklesby. The Royal Navy's unit history says Brocklesby was among the first coalition ships into Umm Qasr during operations in Iraq and cleared a mined channel into the port.
A contemporary Voice of America report from the Umm Qasr demining effort identified Brocklesby and USS Dextrous as the two ships clearing a 200-meter channel through the final stretches of the port area. The same report described suspected mines and underwater objects being treated as serious targets before relief shipping could enter safely.

Timeline
By late March 2003, coalition forces were trying to reopen Umm Qasr for humanitarian supply deliveries while mine-countermeasure ships worked the waterway. VOA reported that the demining process was already under way, with Brocklesby and Dextrous clearing the channel and RFA Sir Galahad expected to follow once the route was safe.
Later Ministry of Defence reporting on Brocklesby's 2011 Libya mission referred back to the 2003 Iraq deployment, saying the Libya operation was the ship's first live mine-clearance work within range of enemy artillery and rockets since Al Faw in Iraq.

Operational role
Brocklesby's Iraq War role was maritime mine clearance and port-access support, not shore attack. Royal Navy material describes the ship as a Hunt-class mine countermeasures vessel built to detect and neutralise mines with sonar, clearance divers, and the Seafox unmanned underwater vehicle.
At Umm Qasr, that mine-warfare role supported a broader coalition effort to make the captured port usable. The evidence ties the Hunt-class record to a named Royal Navy hull, a specific location in southern Iraq, and a port-opening task connected to coalition logistics and humanitarian sea access.
