The Hwasong-6 is North Korea's Scud-C variant, a road-mobile, liquid-fueled short-range ballistic missile developed to extend range by trimming payload relative to the earlier Hwasong-5. It entered Korean People's Army service in 1992 and later spread abroad as an export and derivative missile family seen in Iran, Syria, and Yemen.

Role in Conflicts

Houthi-aligned forces fired inherited Scud-C/Hwasong-6-type short-range ballistic missiles from Yemen in cross-border attacks on Saudi Arabia; UN investigators reported a first confirmed Scud-C-type launch on June 29, 2015 and assessed several 2016-2017 extended-range launches as locally modified Scud-C/Hwasong-6-type missiles.
