Direct proof of use
The SQUIRE record in the 2014 Russia-Ukraine War is supported by Dutch government transfer documents and defense reporting. On 18 February 2022, the Dutch government told parliament that it had obtained export licenses for military goods for Ukraine, including two battlefield surveillance radars, and identified the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence as recipient with Ukrainian land and naval forces as end users.
Dutch defense coverage on 28 February 2022 said two mobile Squire battlefield surveillance radars were on their way to Ukraine from Eindhoven via a neighboring country. A 1 March 2022 weblog by the Dutch Chief of Defence also listed two Squire radars among Dutch aid and stated that almost all of the announced items had been sent, while five promised mortar-detection radars would follow later.

Timeline
The public record begins immediately before Russia's full-scale invasion. The Dutch parliamentary letter placed the SQUIRE transfer in the context of Ukraine's request for military goods as Russian forces massed near Ukraine and said the goods were intended to strengthen Ukraine's defense against a possible Russian armed attack.
After the invasion began on 24 February 2022, Dutch defense reporting described the two Squire radars as part of the early Dutch military-aid flow. Janes then reported on 3 March 2022 that the Netherlands was supplying two Squire man-portable 2D ground-surveillance radars and five AN/TPQ-36 Firefinder weapon-locating radars to Ukraine, with delivery expected to take one or two weeks.

Narrative
SQUIRE was supplied as a sensor and targeting-support system rather than as a weapon that fires munitions. Dutch government material described the mobile Squire battlefield surveillance radar as able to detect moving vehicles, groups of people, and low-flying helicopters, thereby strengthening the user's information position. The same parliamentary letter said the radars and associated goods would allow Ukrainian forces to warn their own troops of incoming fire and defend more accurately against enemy artillery fire.
Janes identified the transferred system as the Thales Squire man-portable 2D ground-surveillance radar and described its battlefield functions as ground surveillance, target acquisition, and artillery fire adjustment. Thales product data also describes SQUIRE as a man-portable surveillance radar for battlefield, border, coastal, and site-surveillance applications, with target classification, threat-warning zones, mini-UAV detection, and artillery or mortar fire-adjustment features.
Public sources used here directly document Dutch approval, shipment, intended Ukrainian end users, and the system's surveillance and fire-adjustment role. They do not provide a public, unit-level Ukrainian combat incident showing a named SQUIRE set operating at a particular front-line location, so the supported conflict-use claim is transfer and fielding for Ukrainian surveillance, targeting support, and force protection after the full-scale invasion.
