The Ground Master 200 is a Thales mobile medium-range radar family used for air surveillance, air-defense cueing, and, in newer Multi Mission variants, counter-battery and weapon-locating tasks. France supplied GM200 radars to Ukraine for air-defense surveillance during the 2014 Russia-Ukraine War, while European operators have adopted the later MM/A and MM/C configurations for ground-based air defense and artillery support.

Radar Family Context

The Ground Master 200 is best read as a radar family rather than one fixed configuration. The original GM200 is a mobile air-defense sensor; the later GM200 Multi Mission line adds all-in-one and compact variants for air surveillance, ground-based air defense, counter-battery work, and weapon locating.

Original GM200

S-band phased-array radar with 250 km surveillance and 100 km engagement figures in the older ThalesRaytheonSystems data sheet.

MM/A

All-in-one Multi Mission variant for air surveillance and ground-based air defense missions.

MM/C

Compact Multi Mission variant used for counter-battery, weapon locating, VSHORAD, SHORAD, and air-defense tasks.

Variants

Ground Master 200 sources distinguish the original GM200 from the later GM200 Multi Mission family; range, packaging, and mission claims differ by variant.

VariantConfigurationDesignation notes
GM200Original medium-range tactical air-defense radar

The older ThalesRaytheonSystems data sheet describes the GM200 as an S-band phased-array radar with 250 km surveillance range and 100 km engagement range, packaged in a 20 ft ISO shelter.
