Operational role

A UK military accident summary says RAF Tornado GR Mk4A ZG710 was destroyed by a U.S. Army Patriot surface-to-air missile near Kuwait after the Patriot system wrongly identified it as an Iraqi anti-radiation missile. The Defense Science Board summary separately states that Patriot was involved in three fratricide incidents and identified combat identification and situational awareness as major shortfalls.
