Across Desert Storm, coalition use of anti-radiation missiles was concentrated in suppression of Iraqi radar-guided air defenses. Its documented target set was Iraqi radar equipment and active radar emitters tied to Iraq's integrated air-defense network. The Gulf War chapter links heavy HARM firing to reduced Iraqi radar activity and identifies F-4G Wild Weasel aircraft as roving surface-to-air missile killers that located and fired at active emitters.

The HARM role combined destructive and suppressive effects. The same Gulf War account says the first-night firing of about 200 HARMs changed Iraqi air-defense behavior and contributed to a sharp reduction in radar activity by the third day. It also records that the 35th Tactical Fighter Wing, described as the main Wild Weasel HARM-firing formation, fired 905 missiles and recorded 254 radars destroyed.

The AGM-88B Block III was the principal variant associated with the campaign in specialist designation references.
