The 120 KRH 92 is a Finnish 120 mm heavy mortar from the Vammas and Patria Vammas heavy-weapons lineage. It is primarily a towed indirect-fire weapon, but Finnish service also ties the mortar to tracked and newer modular mobility concepts. Open-source reporting identified Finnish-made 120 KRH 92 and 120 KRH 85/92 mortars in Ukrainian service during the full-scale phase of the 2014 Russia-Ukraine War.

  3. Mobile successor project announced

The Finnish Army announced a Patria Land pre-series procurement for the 120 KRH M3 modular mobile mortar system, a successor mobility concept that uses existing heavy-mortar barrels and fire-management equipment rather than renaming the 120 KRH 92.

Tracked Carrier And Mobile Successor Context

The 120 KRH 92 page is primarily a towed mortar record, but Finnish sources also place the weapon inside a longer mobility line. The 120 KRH TEKA carrier uses the mortar as its mounted main weapon, while the later 120 KRH M3 / Patria TREMOS project moves toward a modular vehicle-top system that can reuse existing heavy mortar barrels and fire-management equipment.

Finnish Defence Forces material identifies the 120 KRH 92 as the main weapon of the 120 KRH TEKA tracked mortar carrier, mounted in the rear module.

Mobile M3 project

The Finnish Army says the M3 module is intended to be mounted on vehicle tops, execute fire missions directly from the vehicle, and move the mortar to another vehicle if needed.

Patria TREMOS identity

Patria identifies the Finnish Army project as 120 KRH M3 and its company product name as Patria TREMOS, with pre-series deliveries planned for 2025.

Its large bomb, two-wheel transport arrangement, and roughly 5.7 km range made it a durable regimental mortar design; OSCE monitoring documented PM-38 mortars in Donbas heavy-weapons holding and storage records during the 2014 Russia-Ukraine War, while Oryx listed M-1938 heavy mortars in Yemen's pre-war army inventory.

This generic entry is for source-backed cases where public evidence identifies the caliber and mortar role but not a precise national model, including Ukrainian 120-mm mortar fire near Chasiv Yar, probable 120 mm mortar shelling in Yemen, Gaddafi-era use around Misratah, and a Nigerien seizure from Boko Haram fighters.

The vehicle combines protected troop transport, modular mission kits, optional amphibious capability, and configurations for command, medical evacuation, heavy APC, remote-weapon-station, and 120 mm NEMO mortar roles. By 2026 CAVS had seven NATO participants and nearly 2,000 ordered vehicles including options, while Latvia-produced Patria 6x6 APCs had been transferred to Ukrainian service during the full-scale phase of the 2014 Russia-Ukraine War.

It shares the Nona ammunition concept with the 2S9 and 2S23, allowing mortar bombs, special 120 mm projectiles, and selected guided rounds from one compact artillery piece. In the 2014 Russia-Ukraine War it has appeared in Russian loss tracking and in Ukrainian service, including captured guns used for infantry and position-defense fire missions.
