The UB-16UM rocket pod is a reusable Soviet 57 mm aircraft launcher for sixteen S-5-series rockets. Built around standard aircraft hardpoint carriage, the UB-16 family remains useful as a compact rocket store on legacy aircraft and has reappeared in the 2014 Russia-Ukraine War on improvised unmanned ground vehicles.

Role in Conflicts

Improvised Ground Launch Role

The pod's small size and self-contained tube cluster make it attractive for improvised land launchers even when accuracy and warhead effect are limited. ARES documented earlier UB-series ground conversions, while Defense Express reported Russia-Ukraine War examples on tracked unmanned ground vehicles.

Launcher And Rocket Fit

The UB-16UM page represents the 16-tube branch of the S-5 pod family. The pod gives aircraft or improvised ground mounts a compact salvo of small unguided rockets, while the related UB-32 family doubles the tube count at greater size and weight.
