Direct proof of use
The T-34/85 is documented in the 2014 Yemen Civil War through pre-war Yemeni Army inventory evidence, open-source reporting on battlefield footage, and a dated loss report. Oryx listed the T-34/85 Obr. 1945 among tanks in Yemeni Army service before the Houthi takeover in 2014 and 2015, describing the list as equipment available to Yemeni battlefield parties.
Later reporting documented active use. Tank and AFV News described a 2017 video compilation as showing T-34/85 tanks in use in the fighting in Yemen, while Army Recognition reported in March 2021 that Soviet-made T-34/85 tanks were still used to fight in Yemen. Defence Blog reported a specific January 24, 2019 incident in which a pro-Saudi T-34-85 was hit by a Houthi anti-tank guided missile near Damt in Dhale province.

Timeline
The relevant sequence begins with the fragmentation of Yemen's state military stocks after the Houthi takeover of Sanaa in September 2014 and the Saudi-led intervention in March 2015. Oryx published its pre-war fighting-vehicle handbook on September 20, 2015, placing T-34/85 tanks in the inherited Yemeni Army tank inventory available during the conflict's opening phase.
By 2016 and 2017, open-source video and image reporting showed T-34/85 tanks being used in the fighting. A September 2018 wwiiafterwwii article described reactivated T-34s used by the national army, anti-Houthi militia forces, and Houthi forces as infantry-support vehicles. The clearest dated combat incident in the record is the January 24, 2019 Damt strike reported by Defence Blog.

Battlefield role
The Yemen evidence points to reactivation of old Yemeni stocks rather than new production or transfer. Oryx's inventory places the T-34/85 in the pre-war Yemeni Army tank park, and wwiiafterwwii describes remaining T-34s being recovered or reactivated as the current war began.
In the conflict, the tank's documented role was limited and opportunistic. Reporting describes T-34/85s as direct-fire or infantry-support vehicles rather than modern armored spearheads. The cited sources tie the type to government-aligned, anti-Houthi, and Houthi-aligned use, but they do not establish a reliable fleet count, regular unit structure, or repeated tank-on-tank combat employment.
The January 2019 Damt report shows the tank's vulnerability in the modern battlefield environment: a pro-Saudi T-34-85 was reported hit by a Houthi anti-tank guided missile. That incident supports actual combat exposure by government-aligned forces and anti-armor engagement by Houthi fighters, while the broader imagery-based sources support continuing field use by both main Yemeni sides.
