Direct proof of use
U.S. Army and Army University Press records document Stryker use in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. A 2023 Army anniversary article describes 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division as the Army's first Stryker brigade combat deployment and says its first Iraq missions included clearing part of Samarra after the brigade deployed in late 2003.
Direct Iraq imagery and reporting show the vehicles in later operations. DVIDS video from Mosul on November 13, 2004 shows Stryker soldiers from 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division working with Iraqi security forces during neighborhood security activity, while a DVIDS image caption places Stryker Brigade Combat Team vehicles on patrol near Mosul on March 31, 2005.

Timeline
The public record places the first Stryker brigade combat deployment at the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom II. Army reporting says 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division held its deployment ceremony on October 30, 2003, then conducted early Iraq missions including clearing part of Samarra.
By late 2004 and 2005, Stryker units were documented in Mosul. Army University Press describes 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry, a Stryker-equipped unit in 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, as responsible for western Mosul during the October 2004 to September 2005 rotation. DVIDS records from the same period show Stryker soldiers conducting security activity in Mosul and Stryker vehicles patrolling near the city.

Narrative
In Iraq, the Stryker appeared as a U.S. Army protected mobility and infantry-combat vehicle for Stryker brigade combat teams. Army University Press describes the first Stryker deployment as arriving in Iraq in December 2003 and identifies operational mobility and a command-and-control network as distinctive features compared with heavier mechanized and light units already in theater.
The clearest source-backed combat role was urban and regional security work. In Mosul, Army University Press places Stryker-equipped 1-24 Infantry in the western half of the city during the 2004-2005 rotation, where the battalion conducted counterinsurgency operations after insurgent attacks on police stations. The same study says Iraq-deployed Strykers were retrofitted with slat armor against RPG threats and describes the vehicle as operationally effective in the urban environment.
Stryker brigades remained part of the Iraq force through the late-war transition. Army reporting on the final combat brigade convoy out of Iraq says 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team had completed a yearlong tour around Baghdad assisting, training, and advising Iraqi security forces before crossing into Kuwait in August 2010 as Operation Iraqi Freedom ended.
