Direct proof of use
Raytheon identifies the Patriot Configuration-3 ground equipment, PAC-3, and GEM-T series of missiles as combat-proven during Operation Iraqi Freedom, the U.S.-led campaign that opened the 2003 Iraq War. That manufacturer source directly ties the GEM-T series to the conflict, while the broader official Patriot performance record describes improved PAC-2 missiles and PAC-3 missiles as the two interceptor types used in the campaign.
A Defense Science Board report summary on Patriot performance in Operation Iraqi Freedom stated that Patriot's assigned role was defense against tactical ballistic missiles. It reported that up to 40 U.S. fire units and 22 coalition fire units deployed, that improved PAC-2 and PAC-3 interceptors were used, and that the bulk of the enemy tactical ballistic-missile engagements fell to PAC-2.

Timeline
The first documented Patriot engagements came at the start of the invasion. A CSIS working chronology for March 20-21, 2003 reported that Patriot batteries intercepted and destroyed two tactical ballistic missiles fired at coalition forces in Kuwait, with engagements by PAC-3 hit-to-kill missiles and Guidance Enhanced Missiles.
After the initial combat phase, official and public summaries described a larger Patriot engagement record. The Defense Science Board summary counted nine enemy tactical ballistic missiles that threatened Patriot-defended areas and were engaged; Arms Control Today reported the same nine-for-nine Army claim while noting that other Iraqi missiles were not engaged and that Iraqi cruise missiles exposed a separate low-altitude defense problem.

Operational role
In the 2003 Iraq War, the MIM-104E Patriot PAC-2 GEM/T belonged to the coalition air and missile defense layer rather than to Iraqi ground combat. The documented side was the United States and coalition forces, and the supported mission was protection of forces and defended areas from Iraqi tactical ballistic missiles during the opening invasion period.
The sources do not provide a missile-by-missile public firing log for GEM-T alone. Raytheon names the GEM-T series as combat-proven in Operation Iraqi Freedom, while the Defense Science Board and CSIS chronology describe improved PAC-2 or Guidance Enhanced Missile use in Patriot engagements. The strongest public record therefore supports GEM-T-series conflict use and places it within PAC-2/GEM Patriot missile-defense operations, but it does not identify every individual interceptor round fired.
