The Iveco LMV is an Italian 4x4 protected multirole vehicle built around patrol, liaison, command, and troop-mobility tasks where mine and small-arms protection matter more than heavy-vehicle firepower. The family is known as VTLM Lince in Italian service, Panther in British service, and Rys in Russian service; in the 2014 Russia-Ukraine War it appears both as donor-supplied vehicles for Ukraine and as Russian LMV Rys vehicles documented among battlefield losses.

Role in Conflicts

Ukraine War Evidence

The Russia-Ukraine row combines three direct evidence lanes. Norwegian government reporting supports Ukrainian receipt of IVECO LMVs, ArmyInform supports Ukrainian Air Assault Forces battlefield use, and Oryx supports Russian-side battlefield presence by listing visually confirmed Russian Iveco LMV Rys losses. The row does not treat every European LMV aid pledge as delivered unless the cited source directly says so.

Protected Mobility Design

The LMV is best read as a protected patrol and liaison vehicle rather than an infantry fighting vehicle. Its design trades heavy weapons and tracked armor for a compact 4x4 chassis, modular protection, and enough payload flexibility for command, patrol, medical, logistics, and specialist-body variants.
