IVECO is an Italian vehicle manufacturer whose defence lineage runs through Iveco Defence Vehicles, now IDV Group, a specialist producer of protected, armoured, multirole, and military logistic vehicles. Its defence-vehicle work links the Bolzano military-truck plant, the Iveco-Oto Melara armoured-vehicle consortium, and later IDV product lines.
7 weaponsIVECO's defence-vehicle business grew out of the Bolzano military-truck plant built in 1937 for Lancia Veicoli Industriali and later incorporated into the Iveco industrial group formed in 1975. The defence arm became known for light multirole vehicles, high-mobility trucks, and wheeled armoured vehicles, including systems developed through the Italian Iveco-Oto Melara consortium.
In current corporate terms, the former Iveco Group defence business has been separated from Iveco Group and reorganized as IDV Group S.r.l.; Leonardo announced completion of its acquisition of that defence business in March 2026. The historical IVECO label remains common in public sources for older and exported vehicles attributed to Iveco or Iveco Defence Vehicles.
