The FV103 Spartan entered the 2014 Russia-Ukraine War through British armored-vehicle transfers and Ukrainian volunteer procurement. Defense Express reported in July 2022 that British-donated FV103 Spartans had arrived in Ukraine, with vehicles seen in the Bakhmut area and 35 APCs handed over.
Later Ukrainian and diaspora sources document continued Ukrainian operation. The Ukrainian World Congress reported that its Unite With Ukraine initiative delivered FV103 Spartan and FV432 armored vehicles to Ukraine's Territorial Defense Forces in February 2023, while a March 2024 UWC report said one of its procured FV103 Spartans was serving with Territorial Defense brigades and survived two Russian Zala loitering-munition strikes in Donetsk Oblast.

Timeline
Open-source reporting first placed British-donated Spartans in Ukraine by July 2022. The same year, the Serhii Prytula Charity Foundation raised funds for additional FV103 Spartans from the United Kingdom, with The Guardian reporting that 50 vehicles were expected to reach the Ukrainian front and Defense Express reporting that the campaign had surpassed its target and was discussing procurement of 60 vehicles.
In 2023, civil-society procurement expanded the fleet. UWC said the first lot of six FV103 Spartan and FV432 armored vehicles had arrived in Ukraine for the Territorial Defense Forces, with 25 vehicles procured in the project. By March 2024, UWC described those vehicles as fulfilling front-line combat duties for more than a year. In March 2026, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine listed the FV103 Spartan among CVR(T) armored vehicles in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Narrative
In Ukrainian service, the Spartan appears as a protected mobility and light evacuation vehicle rather than a heavy infantry fighting vehicle. It is a small tracked APC with a three-person crew and space for a small passenger group, which made it useful for moving troops, evacuation teams, and other small detachments under armor across muddy or damaged terrain.
The clearest locations in public sources are eastern Ukraine and Donetsk Oblast. Defense Express reported July 2022 imagery of Spartans in the Bakhmut area, The Guardian quoted Prytula Foundation logistics staff saying the tracked vehicles were intended for the southern front and Donbas, and UWC later tied a surviving Spartan to a Donetsk Oblast drone-strike incident.
The sources separate three stages: UK donation and training/transfer context in 2022, Ukrainian volunteer purchase and delivery of additional vehicles in late 2022 and 2023, and continued front-line use by Ukrainian formations. They do not establish a single complete fleet count in Ukrainian service, but they directly support Ukrainian fielding of the FV103 Spartan during the full-scale phase of the war.
