Yasen / Yasen-M

Yasen / Yasen-M is Russia's family of fourth-generation nuclear-powered cruise missile submarines, designed by Malakhit and built by Sevmash. The lead boat Severodvinsk entered service in 2014, and later Yasen-M boats added a modernized sensor fit and new cruise-missile carriage options.

Cruise Missile Armament

USNI reported that the lead boat Severodvinsk carried both Kalibr and Oniks cruise missiles as part of its main weapons fit.

Conflict-related deployment/deterrence role rather than confirmed weapons release: in September 2022, Naval News reported that the Yasen-class submarine Severodvinsk appeared to have deployed to the Mediterranean, describing Russia's Mediterranean naval posture as an outer defense/deterrent layer for Black Sea operations during the invasion of Ukraine. I found no public evidence that a Yasen/Yasen-M fired at Ukraine.
