The first widely reported Yak-52 drone-intercept evidence appeared on 27 April 2024, when videos circulated from the Odesa region. Reporting described the Yak-52 circling a Russian Orlan-10 and Ukrainian accounts said the drone was brought down by gunfire from the aircraft.

On 8 June 2024, additional footage circulated from the target drone's point of view, showing the Ukrainian Yak-52 maneuvering near a Russian UAV. On 25-26 June 2024, TWZ and The Aviationist reported photos of kill markings on a Ukrainian Yak-52, including two ZALA 421-16E and six Orlan-10/30-series drones. By August 2025, TWZ described the aircraft as assigned to Ukraine's 11th Army Aviation Brigade and reported claims from the brigade deputy commander that light aircraft and helicopters were accounting for a measurable share of Ukrainian drone shootdowns.
