Direct proof of use
T-80BV tanks are documented in Houthi-aligned service during the 2014 Yemen Civil War through public reporting on the Presidential Protection Brigades in Sana'a. The Combating Terrorism Center at West Point reported that an August 12, 2022 parade in Sana'a showed T-80BV tanks with explosive reactive armor in the service of the Presidential Protection Brigades, and that the tanks were drawn from former 3rd Republican Guard brigade stocks.
A later January 2024 report by The War Zone described Houthi-released imagery showing troops training with several weapons, including a Soviet-era T-80 tank. That reporting supports continued Houthi-aligned possession and training use, but it does not by itself identify a specific battlefield firing incident.

Timeline
Before the Houthi takeover, Oryx listed the T-80BV among tanks in the Yemeni Army inventory and framed the list as pre-war equipment available to Yemeni parties on the battlefield after the 2014-2015 collapse of central control.
The clearest dated post-takeover appearance is August 12, 2022, when CTC reported T-80BV tanks in a Sana'a parade by the Presidential Protection Brigades. In January 2024, The War Zone reported Houthi training imagery that included a T-80 tank.

Narrative
The T-80's documented Yemen role is best treated as Houthi-aligned heavy armor fielding rather than a record of confirmed tank engagements. The public sources identify T-80BV tanks in Houthi-controlled Presidential Protection Brigades service and later training imagery, but do not establish a named battle, target, or firing event for the type.
The CTC account places the tanks inside the Presidential Protection Brigades, a force it describes as built from Saleh-era Republican Guard structures and materiel after the Houthi-Saleh rupture. In that context, the T-80BV appears as inherited elite armor retained by Houthi-aligned forces around Sana'a, with public visibility through parade and training material rather than routine battlefield reporting.
