Direct proof of use
Crotale appears in the 2014 Russia-Ukraine War record as a French-supplied Ukrainian short-range air-defense system. The French Ministry for the Armed Forces listed two Crotale NG systems and Crotale missiles among equipment delivered to Ukraine, and contemporary reporting on Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu's November 2022 announcement described two Crotale NG batteries being sent to Kyiv.
Combat-use evidence is public but narrower than the delivery record. In March 2023, Army Recognition reported a video from the Ukrainian Operational Armed Forces Telegram channel showing Ukrainian personnel using a French-donated Crotale NG to intercept a Russian cruise missile. Later Ukrainian unit media, reported by Militarnyi and UNITED24 Media, showed trailer-mounted Crotale NG systems in service with the 38th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment.

Timeline
France moved Crotale into Ukraine's aid package after Russia's autumn 2022 missile and drone attacks drove urgent demand for additional air defense. By November 2022, Lecornu had publicly confirmed Crotale NG batteries for Ukraine, and France's official delivery list later recorded two Crotale NG systems and associated missiles as delivered.
The first widely reported combat-use video followed in March 2023, when Ukrainian personnel were shown firing two Crotale missiles at a Russian cruise missile, with the second interceptor hitting the target. Public unit-level footage in February 2025 then placed trailer-mounted Crotale NG systems with the 38th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment.

Narrative
In Ukrainian service, Crotale NG fills a point-defense role rather than a long-range area-defense role. The system is documented as a mobile short-range surface-to-air missile package intended to counter aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aircraft, and cruise missiles, matching Ukraine's need to protect forces, cities, and critical sites from repeated Russian aerial attacks.
The available public record supports Ukrainian operation and combat employment, but not a full shot-by-shot operational history. The strongest claims are that France delivered Crotale NG systems and missiles to Ukraine, that Ukrainian personnel used a Crotale NG in a documented cruise-missile intercept in March 2023, and that a Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile regiment later publicly showed trailer-mounted Crotale NG systems in service.
