Direct proof of use
The VT-1 appears in the 2014 Russia-Ukraine War record through French-supplied Crotale NG systems in Ukrainian service. A French National Assembly report identified VT1 as the missile used with Crotale NG and recorded two Crotale NG systems transferred to Ukraine, while the French Ministry for the Armed Forces listed Crotale missiles among delivered equipment for Ukraine.
Combat-use reporting is more specific than the transfer record. Air & Cosmos reported that March 20, 2023 footage showed a Ukrainian Crotale NG firing a first VT1 missile, then a second VT1 missile that successfully intercepted a Russian missile. Army Recognition separately reported the same Ukrainian video as a Crotale NG engagement in which two missiles were fired and the second hit a Russian cruise missile.

Timeline
France confirmed the Crotale NG transfer in November 2022, during Ukraine's urgent effort to reinforce air defense against Russian missile and drone strikes. The French parliamentary report later described the transferred package as two Crotale NG systems and linked the system to VT1 missiles.
The first public combat-use report followed in March 2023. Air & Cosmos dated the footage to March 20 and described the firing sequence from a Crotale NG crew station, while Army Recognition reported on March 21 that the Ukrainian video showed a French-donated Crotale NG used against a Russian cruise missile. In February 2025, Ukrainian unit footage reported by UNITED24 Media showed trailer-mounted Crotale NG systems in service and described the systems as carrying eight ready-to-launch VT-1 missiles.

Narrative
In Ukrainian service, VT-1 is documented as an interceptor fired from Crotale NG launchers rather than as a separate battlefield weapon. The missile's conflict role is short-range air defense and force protection: Crotale NG uses its launcher sensors and fire-control chain to engage aircraft, drones, helicopters, and cruise missiles, and Ukrainian reporting tied the system to defending against Russian aerial attacks.
The catalog weapon name includes Mk3 because open references use Crotale Mk3 for an extended-range Crotale NG configuration, but the Ukraine-specific evidence supports VT-1 missiles with Crotale NG systems. The public sources reviewed for this page do not prove that Ukraine received a distinct Crotale Mk3 launcher configuration; they do support French delivery of Crotale NG systems and missiles, and a documented Ukrainian VT1 firing sequence during a Russian missile intercept.
