The clearest direct-use record comes from July 2021. TASS, citing Vadim Kulit of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Opposing Parties in Syria, reported that Syrian army Buk-M2E systems destroyed four guided missiles fired by Israeli F-16s at facilities in Homs province from Lebanese airspace on July 22. The same report said Pantsir-S and Buk-M2 systems had intercepted seven of eight Israeli guided missiles fired southeast of Aleppo earlier that week.

European Security & Defence reported another Russian-media account in August 2021 in which Syrian air-defense forces intercepted Israeli missiles launched from Lebanese airspace; it identified the Russian-origin systems involved as Buk-M2E and Pantsir-E, and separately cited SIPRI delivery data for 18 Syrian 9K317E Buk-M2E units in 2011.

The documented Syrian Civil War use centers on defending government-controlled territory and facilities from foreign air and missile strikes. The July 2021 Homs account specifically attributed the intercepts to Syrian army Buk-M2E systems. The April 2018 coalition strike record is more contested: Russian reporting credited Syrian Buk-system fire with interceptions, while U.S. briefings said Syrian launches mostly occurred after the strike's final impacts and did not successfully engage coalition missiles or aircraft.
