Direct proof of use
The documented Russia-Ukraine War connection for SPEXER 2000 3D MkIII is a July 2025 HENSOLDT order for Ukraine. HENSOLDT said the package, worth more than EUR340 million, would deliver TRML-4D high-performance radars and SPEXER 2000 3D MkIII short-range radars to strengthen Ukrainian air defense.
Janes independently reported the same contract on 25 July 2025, describing an undisclosed number of SPEXER 2000 3D MkIII short-range radars and TRML-4D radars for Ukraine. The sources reviewed for this entry do not identify a completed SPEXER 2000 handover date, Ukrainian unit, specific emplacement, or verified combat engagement.

Timeline
On 24 July 2025, HENSOLDT announced the Ukraine radar order and named SPEXER 2000 3D MkIII as the short-range radar element of the package. The company linked the order to Ukraine's air-defense needs and described SPEXER as part of its near and very-short-range air-defense portfolio.
On 25 July 2025, Janes reported the order as a contracted delivery to Ukraine and added that SPEXER 2000 3D MkIII is an X-band radar intended for ground, sea, and low-flying air targets, including unmanned aircraft systems and missiles.

Narrative
In Ukraine's air-defense context, SPEXER 2000 3D MkIII fits the short-range sensor layer rather than the long-range search role associated with TRML-4D. HENSOLDT's product material describes the land variant as an X-band pulse-Doppler AESA radar for battlefield surveillance, counter-UAS work, ground-based air defense, artillery support, convoy protection, and force protection.
The July 2025 order did not publicly disclose quantities or a deployment schedule for the SPEXER radars. Defense Express characterized the order as the first publicly reported Ukrainian delivery context for SPEXER 2000 Mk 3 and noted that the radar could be used as a vehicle-mounted or stand-alone mobile air-surveillance asset rather than necessarily indicating a Skyranger 30 vehicle transfer.
