Direct proof of use
The OT-90 is documented in the 2014 Russia-Ukraine War through Defense Express reporting published on August 21, 2025. The report identified a Czech OT-90 in Ukrainian military service and described the vehicle as a BVP-1 hull fitted with a machine-gun turret from the OT-64 SKOT wheeled armored personnel carrier.
The same report described the Ukrainian example with additional side grilles and a rear improvised anti-drone cover, and noted that a similar vehicle appeared in the background. The evidence supports Ukrainian fielding of OT-90 armored personnel carriers in the conflict, but it does not establish a precise unit, location, delivery route, or total number in Ukrainian service.

Dated appearance
The clearest dated public milestone is the August 2025 Defense Express identification. The article treated the vehicle as already in Ukrainian military use during the full-scale war and framed it as a Czech armored personnel carrier conversion derived from Czechoslovak BMP-1 and OT-64 SKOT components.
The report also assessed the transfer path cautiously. It said the vehicles were not present in public military-aid lists and therefore could have reached Ukraine through aid or private purchase, so the conflict-use record should separate documented Ukrainian operation from unconfirmed donor or procurement details.

Operational role
In Ukrainian service, the OT-90 appears as a protected troop carrier rather than as a cannon-armed infantry fighting vehicle. Its original conversion replaced the BVP-1/BMP-1 73 mm gun turret with a lighter machine-gun turret, and Defense Express identified the Ukrainian vehicle as an armored personnel carrier with additional field protection.
Valka's OT-90 profile gives the conversion background: Czechoslovakia produced OT-90 vehicles from BVP-1 hulls during the 1990-1991 period, replacing the original turret with the OT-64A/SKOT-style turret. That background helps explain why the vehicle is cataloged in this conflict as mobility, troop transport, and force protection rather than as a primary anti-armor or fire-support system.
