Documented Use

Direct proof of use

Canada's public military-support table records a delivered package of 39 Armoured Combat Support Vehicles for Ukraine, including additional armour, radio communications, in-service support, spare parts, maintenance, technical manuals, and training. The same table identifies the package as the troop and equipment transport model and states that Ukrainian training began on October 10, 2022.

A separate Canadian package added 50 General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada ACSV vehicles, including ambulance variants. National Defence said the first four vehicles from that 50-vehicle donation departed Canada for Europe on June 12, 2024, where Ukrainian personnel would train on them, and Canada's military-support table later recorded the first 10 ambulance ACSVs as delivered to Ukraine in October 2024.

Timeline

The ACSV record in Ukraine begins with Canada's June 2022 commitment of 39 vehicles and the October 2022 start of Ukrainian training. Canada later added a larger 50-vehicle commitment announced in 2023, moved the first four vehicles from that package toward Europe in June 2024, and recorded the first 10 ambulance variants as delivered to Ukraine in October 2024.

By September 9, 2025, National Defence reported that eight more ACSVs had reached Poland and were on their way to Ukraine, with all 50 vehicles from the 2023 commitment expected by the end of 2025.

Role in Ukrainian service

The LAV 6.0 ACSV appears in this conflict as a protected combat-support and mobility vehicle rather than as a tank or infantry fighting vehicle. Canada's delivery records identify troop and equipment transport vehicles in the first 39-vehicle package, while the later package explicitly included armoured ambulances.

National Defence described the 50-vehicle package as able to transport troops, provide secure command-and-control locations, and support medical evacuation. It also said the ambulance variant was equipped for treatment of a range of injuries and was intended to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine evacuate wounded personnel from combat zones.

Vehicle family and variants

Canada's ACSV procurement page describes the type as a LAV 6.0-based armoured combat-support family. The Canadian Army project covers 360 vehicles in eight variants: troop/cargo, ambulance, command post, electronic warfare, engineer, fitter/cargo, maintenance and recovery, and mobile repair team.

For Ukraine, the directly documented variants are the troop and equipment transport model in the 39-vehicle package and ambulance vehicles in the later 50-vehicle package. The Canadian support record does not provide a public combat-incident log for individual Ukrainian ACSV missions.
