Direct proof of use
Ukraine's Ministry of Defence describes AASM Hammer bombs provided by France as munitions adapted for Ukrainian MiG-29 launches and as weapons engaging enemy targets. Ukrainska Pravda separately reported that Ukraine's Air Force released footage of French-supplied AASM Hammer guided bombs being deployed against Russian forces by Captain Oleksandr Myhulia of the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade.
The best-supported public record is therefore transfer, adaptation, and employment by the Ukrainian Air Force rather than a complete sortie or target log. Reporting identifies MiG-29, Su-27, and Su-25 aircraft in Ukrainian service as launch platforms, with visual evidence varying by aircraft and date.

Transfer and adaptation
France announced monthly AASM deliveries to Ukraine in January 2024. Contemporary reporting from Defense News, citing French Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu, said France would deliver 50 AASM air-launched munitions per month throughout 2024 and that the weapon had already been adapted for Soviet-era aircraft.
The adaptation mattered because AASM had been built around Western launch platforms such as Rafale and Mirage 2000, while Ukraine's combat aircraft inventory still relied heavily on Soviet-designed fighters and attack aircraft. Ukraine's Ministry of Defence later named MiG-29 launches in Ukrainian service and described the munition's guidance and booster package as enabling precision air-to-surface attack from stand-off range.

Documented launch platforms
MiG-29 evidence is the clearest in public reporting. The War Zone reported on August 14, 2024 that the Ukrainian Air Force had released cockpit footage showing a MiG-29 employing French-made AASM-250 Hammer bombs, with the clip showing the release of two bombs in a toss-release profile.
Su-27 use was documented earlier in April 2024, when The Aviationist reported video of a Ukrainian Su-27 dropping a French-supplied AASM-250 Hammer bomb and described the footage as confirmation that the weapon had been integrated on Ukraine's Su-27 fleet. In January 2025, The Aviationist reported a video showing a Ukrainian Su-25 employing French-made AASM Hammer bombs, while noting that the exact recording date was unclear.

Role in the conflict
In Ukrainian service, HAMMER / AASM functioned as an aircraft-launched stand-off precision bomb for attacks on Russian forces and positions. The record supports a long-range strike role from Ukrainian aircraft, but public sources usually identify the weapon, aircraft, and broad Russian target context more reliably than exact munition variant, aircraft tail number, sortie location, or battle damage.
The available evidence also shows how Ukraine expanded Western precision air-to-ground weapons across legacy aircraft. AASM joined other adapted air-launched weapons in Ukrainian service, with reporting on the same footage placing Hammer use alongside risky Ukrainian tactics for launching AGM-88 HARM and JDAM-ER weapons from older Soviet equipment.
