The D'Estienne d'Orves-class aviso, also known as the Type A69, is a French-built light corvette and offshore-patrol family developed for coastal anti-submarine warfare, escort, and overseas-presence missions. Arsenal de Lorient built the French class around an 80-meter diesel hull with Exocet missiles, a 100 mm CADAM gun, torpedoes, and a 375 mm anti-submarine rocket launcher; later French service shifted surviving ships into high-seas patrol duties after heavy anti-submarine and anti-ship weapons were removed.

Role in Conflicts

Argentine A69/Drummond corvettes served in the Falklands War; ARA Guerrico supported the South Georgia landing at Grytviken, fired on British positions, and was hit by small-arms and anti-tank fire before withdrawing.

Operator Branches And Patrol Conversion

The A69 design appears in three useful catalog contexts: the original French avisos, transferred Turkish Burak-class corvettes, and French-built Argentine Drummond-class corvettes. French survivors later shifted from Cold War coastal anti-submarine work toward high-seas patrol missions.
