Direct proof of use
Aster 30 is documented in the 2014 Russia-Ukraine War through Ukraine's use of French-Italian SAMP/T air-defense batteries. France's Ministry of the Armed Forces listed one SAMP/T system among equipment delivered to Ukraine from 24 February 2022 through 31 December 2023, while Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto later said the SAMP/T system Italy had delivered, and another it planned to deliver, had allowed Ukraine to defend against Russian missile attacks.
Interceptor-specific evidence comes from Aster missile stock and replenishment reporting. Defense News reported in May 2025 that Ukraine had received two donated SAMP/T batteries from Italy and France, that the batteries use Aster missiles, and that Kyiv had reportedly run out of missiles for those batteries. In June 2026, Ukraine's Ministry of Defence described Aster-30 missiles as an urgent priority for strengthening Ukrainian air defense before winter.
Public reporting also supports operational SAMP/T use by Ukrainian air defense. Suspilne reported in March 2025 that Ukrainian Air Force communications official Yurii Ihnat said SAMP/T had shot down a Russian Su-family aircraft and other targets, but the report did not identify the exact date, location, aircraft model, or individual missile round used.

Timeline
France and Italy moved SAMP/T into Ukraine's air-defense support chain in 2023. French official delivery data covered one SAMP/T system delivered by the end of 2023, while later Defense News reporting described two donated Ukrainian SAMP/T batteries by May 2025, including a second battery that arrived from Italy in December 2024.
By the first half of 2025, Ukrainian and partner reporting had shifted from transfer status to battlefield air-defense use and ammunition pressure. Suspilne's March 2025 report attributed at least one Russian Su-family aircraft shootdown to SAMP/T, and Defense News reported two months later that Aster missile stocks for Ukraine's SAMP/T batteries had become a production and replenishment concern.
In June 2026, Ukraine's Ministry of Defence said Aster-30 missiles were one of Ukraine's urgent air-defense priorities during talks with France, tying further missile delivery to protection of Ukrainian cities before winter.

Operational role
In Ukrainian service, Aster 30 functions as the interceptor fired by SAMP/T batteries rather than as an independent weapon system. The documented role is long-range air defense and force protection against Russian missile, drone, and aircraft attacks.
The strongest public evidence supports fielding, missile supply, and air-defense employment at the system level. It does not establish a public list of Aster 30 firing dates, launch sites, missile serials, or confirmed individual intercepts. The Suspilne report provides a Ukrainian Air Force statement that SAMP/T shot down a Russian Su-family aircraft, but it does not identify the particular interceptor round.
That distinction matters for this entry: Aster 30 is present in the war because Ukrainian SAMP/T batteries require Aster missiles, and Ukraine publicly prioritized further Aster-30 deliveries. Specific kill claims remain tied to the SAMP/T system unless a source directly identifies an Aster 30 round in a particular engagement.
