Direct proof of use
The Saxon is directly documented in Ukrainian service during the 2014 Russia-Ukraine War through transfer records, Ukrainian-service reporting, and later visual-loss records. SIPRI records a 2014 United Kingdom-to-Ukraine order for 75 second-hand AT-105 Saxon armored personnel carriers, with all 75 delivered in 2015. UK parliamentary arms-export material also records export-licence scrutiny for 75 Saxon APCs to Ukraine.
Ukrainian and defense reporting then connects the delivered vehicles to military use. UNIAN reported in February 2015 that the first Saxons would be converted by Ukroboronprom and tested before delivery to Ukrainian military units. Defence24 reported that initial vehicles reached tactical units in March 2015, that some were armed with a DShKM heavy machine gun and two KT-7.62 machine guns, and that the June 2015 batch was slated for medical-evacuation and command-staff conversions. The Armourers Bench later documented Saxon sightings, Donbas use, 2022 full-scale-invasion appearances, captured vehicles, and knocked-out vehicles.

Timeline
The public record starts with the 2014 order and UK export-licence process, followed by delivery in 2015. The first 20 vehicles arrived in February 2015 and were expected to undergo conversion and testing. By March 2015, Defence24 reported that the first examples were being delivered to tactical units, including airborne elements.
The second batch of 55 vehicles arrived in June 2015. Defence24 reported that 20 were to be tailored for medical evacuation and 35 for command-staff use. Think Defence and The Armourers Bench identify early Ukrainian-unit use by airborne, airmobile, and naval infantry formations. The Armourers Bench states that Saxons first saw action in Donbas in June 2015 and later documented renewed visibility during the 2022 full-scale invasion, including ambulance variants and captured or destroyed vehicles.

Battlefield role
In Ukrainian service, the Saxon was not documented as a tank or infantry fighting vehicle. The sources describe it mainly as a low-cost protected-mobility vehicle used by Ukraine for personnel movement, unit support, command-staff work, and medical evacuation. The UK Ministry of Defence described the vehicles publicly as protective mobility rather than close-combat vehicles, while Ukrainian-service reporting emphasized their usefulness as interim armored transport.
Some Ukrainian Saxons were armed after delivery. Defence24 reported an Ukroboronprom-presented armed variant with a DShKM 12.7 mm heavy machine gun and two KT-7.62 machine guns, and Think Defence describes Ukrainian upgrades that added communications equipment and weapons. Other vehicles were rerolled into command or MEDEVAC configurations, with Defence24 naming the planned split for the June 2015 batch.
The strongest later full-scale-invasion evidence is visual and loss-based rather than a complete operational record. The Armourers Bench reported photographs of Saxons in 2022, mostly ambulances and captured or knocked-out vehicles, and Oryx lists visually confirmed Ukrainian AT105A Saxon losses. Those sources support continued fielding and attrition in the conflict, but they do not establish a complete inventory, every unit assignment, or all tactical uses after 2015.
