Direct proof of use
The Sa'ar 6-class corvette is directly documented in the 2025 Israel-Iran Conflict through Israeli Navy air-defense engagements against UAVs launched from Iran. On June 16, 2025, the Israel Defense Forces reported that Israeli Navy missile ships had intercepted eight UAVs launched from Iran overnight, and said the interception marked the first operational use of the Barak Magen aerial-defense system and LRAD. The IDF described the interceptor as installed on an INS Sa'ar 6 missile ship.
A second IDF release on June 17 identified INS Independence as a Sa'ar 6-class missile ship and said it had intercepted approximately 20 UAVs launched from Iran toward Israel. Israel Aerospace Industries later described the same ship's Operation Rising Lion role, saying INS Independence intercepted about 20 UAVs, inaugurated Barak Magen naval use, and then continued defensive interceptions with Sea-Dome.

Timeline
Israel began Operation Rising Lion against Iran on June 13, 2025, and Iran retaliated with ballistic-missile and UAV attacks against Israel. That exchange made air defense one of the central operational tasks of the conflict.
On June 16, the IDF reported eight Iran-launched UAVs intercepted overnight by Israeli Navy missile ships and approximately 25 UAV interceptions by the flotilla since the start of the operation. On June 17, the IDF identified INS Independence as a Sa'ar 6-class missile ship and credited it with approximately 20 UAV interceptions.
IAI's later postwar account placed the first Sa'ar 6 Barak Magen/LRAD interception on the fourth night of the fighting and described the ship's mission as defensive interception of hostile aerial vehicles attempting to enter Israeli airspace from Iran and its allies.

Operational role
The supported role for the Sa'ar 6 class in this conflict was shipborne air defense and force protection. The documented user was Israel, operating Israeli Navy missile ships in coordination with the Israeli Air Force to defend Israeli airspace and civilians against Iranian UAV threats.
The sources distinguish platform use from interceptor-family use. The Sa'ar 6 record is supported by references to Israeli Navy missile ships, INS Independence, and INS Sa'ar 6 shipboard launch; the exact interceptor systems documented in those engagements include Barak Magen/LRAD and Sea-Dome. Public sources reviewed here do not support Iranian use of the class, transfer of the corvettes to another party, or offensive Sa'ar 6 strike missions against Iran in this conflict.
