Direct proof of use
Reuters imagery published by Business Insider showed a Free Syrian Army fighter with an RPG-29 during fighting against forces loyal to Bashar al-Assad at Menagh military airport in northern Aleppo on December 27, 2012. That image caption is the clearest dated public evidence tying the launcher to an identifiable Syrian opposition combat setting.
The Washington Institute for Near East Policy separately reported on January 10, 2013, that Syrian rebel forces had RPG-29 rocket-propelled grenade launchers among their anti-tank weapons. The report placed RPG-29s in a wider rebel pattern of captured or acquired heavy weapons, including tanks, recoilless rifles, mortars, anti-aircraft guns, and anti-tank guided missiles.

Timeline
By late December 2012, fighting around Menagh military airport had become a sustained siege. Associated Press reporting carried by Fox News said rebels had stepped up the siege on December 28, that fighting around Mannagh airbase had continued through the night, and that Syrian government warplanes bombed rebel positions around the base.
The RPG-29 image from December 27 and the Washington Institute's January 2013 assessment both fall in this phase of rebel attacks on government bases in northern Syria. The available public record supports opposition possession and battlefield appearance; it does not identify a named RPG-29 vehicle kill at Menagh.

Narrative
In Syrian opposition service, the RPG-29 fit the anti-armor and direct-fire niche of rebel ground units that were trying to offset Syrian government armor, fortified positions, and airbase defenses with captured or otherwise acquired heavy weapons. The Washington Institute described rebel anti-tank holdings that included Metis-M anti-tank guided missiles, RPG-29 launchers, and SPG-9 recoilless rifles, and said such weapons were appearing more frequently in rebel action videos.
The RPG-29 is a reusable 105 mm launcher associated with tandem high-explosive anti-tank rockets and thermobaric rockets. Rosoboronexport lists the PG-29V tandem rocket and TBG-29V thermobaric rocket for the system; in the Syrian Civil War evidence reviewed here, the documented role is opposition close-range anti-armor and direct-fire capability rather than a confirmed long-range missile or indirect-fire role.
The public sources used for this page separate possession and field appearance from confirmed individual strikes. They directly support Syrian opposition possession and appearance of RPG-29s during the war, but they do not establish quantities, delivery channels, serial provenance, or a comprehensive incident log.
