Direct proof of use
RBS 70 appears in the 2014 Russia-Ukraine War as a Swedish short-range air-defense system in Ukrainian service. The Swedish Armed Forces said Sweden decided on November 17, 2022 to donate air-defense systems and ammunition to Ukraine, then trained Ukrainian soldiers in Sweden on Robot 70; the same account said the system's arrival in Ukraine was shown on Swedish television and that Ukrainian army social-media footage had shown the system.
Battlefield-use reporting places the system with Ukrainian air-defense troops. Defense Express reported on August 17, 2023 that fighters of Ukraine's 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade used an RBS-70 MANPADS system to destroy a Russian Ka-52 attack helicopter near Robotyne in Zaporizhzhia Oblast. In December 2023, Defense Express separately reported that the same brigade's anti-aircraft gunners shot down a Russian SuperCam UAV using the Swedish RBS 70 system.

Transfer and reinforcement timeline
The public transfer trail begins in late 2022, when Sweden moved air-defense systems and ammunition into its Ukraine support and began Robot 70 training. By May 2023, Swedish reporting had shown the system's arrival in Ukraine, and by August 2023 Ukrainian battlefield footage was being reported as a likely first effective combat use against a Ka-52 near Robotyne.
Sweden and Australia later added more RBS 70 support. Sweden's February 20, 2024 package listed Robot 70 among equipment donated to Ukraine. On April 27, 2024, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said at a joint press conference with Australian Defence Minister Richard Marles that Australia would provide a large batch of RBS-70 man-portable air-defense systems, and Australia later reported that its personnel delivered more than a dozen launchers to Ukrainian troops in Poland and trained them to operate and maintain the systems. In February 2025, Sweden announced procurement of RBS 70 and Tridon Mk2 systems for donation to Ukraine.

Battlefield role
In Ukrainian service, RBS 70 is documented as short-range air defense for ground forces and protected areas rather than as a strategic long-range air-defense system. The Swedish Armed Forces described Robot 70 as a rapidly deployable system for smaller targets such as cruise missiles and one-way attack drones, as well as aircraft and helicopters; the public Ukraine use reports tie it to engagements against a Ka-52 attack helicopter and a SuperCam reconnaissance UAV.
The available public record supports Ukrainian fielding, transfer, training, and specific reported engagements, but it does not establish a complete count of RBS 70 launchers, missiles, launches, or confirmed kills in Ukrainian service. Where sources describe later procurement or delivery, the record separates those transfers from already documented battlefield use.
