Direct proof of use
The M230 30 mm chain gun appears in the 2014 Russia-Ukraine War through the M230LF counter-UAS gun-truck package supplied for Ukraine. A U.S. Department of Defense fact sheet dated April 19, 2023 listed nine c-UAS gun trucks among committed security assistance to Ukraine, and National Defense reported that the Northrop Grumman-led Agnostic Gun Truck for Ukraine incorporated a lightweight 30 mm M230 cannon.
EOS later identified the Australian Slinger counter-drone system as part of the same Ukraine pathway. The company said three Slinger lightweight 30 mm cannon systems were ordered for the 30 mm gun trucks announced by the United States, that the Ukraine version would work with Northrop Grumman's M-ACE acquisition, cueing and effector system, and that the Slinger configuration used the M230LF lightweight 30 mm cannon.

Timeline
On April 19, 2023, the Defense Department's Ukraine security-assistance fact sheet listed nine c-UAS gun trucks and broader counter-UAS equipment among U.S. commitments to Ukraine after Russia's full-scale invasion.
On May 22, 2023, National Defense described the Ukraine-bound gun trucks as a Northrop Grumman-led Agnostic Gun Truck package using a lightweight 30 mm M230 cannon, organized as three battery sets of three gun trucks and one M-ACE system.
On August 15, 2023, EOS confirmed the first Slinger export order for Ukraine, identifying three Slinger systems for the U.S.-announced 30 mm gun trucks and describing the Ukraine version as an M230LF-equipped system coordinated with Northrop Grumman's M-ACE.

Narrative
The Ukrainian application was a ground-based counter-drone role rather than the M230's older Apache helicopter role. National Defense described the gun trucks as a counter-UAS system in which M-ACE sensors could cue the gun trucks onto hostile unmanned aircraft while keeping a human operator in the loop.
EOS described Slinger as a stabilized counter-drone system combining radar, a 30 mm cannon, specialized ammunition, and proprietary stabilization and pointing technology. Its product page identifies the cannon as the Bushmaster M230LF 30 x 113 mm and says the system is intended to track and engage moving drones beyond 800 meters.
ABC News reported on October 2, 2023 that ten Slingers were being made in the Australian Capital Territory and expected to be delivered to Ukraine by the end of that year as part of a U.S. military aid package. The cited public sources support transfer, planned delivery, and intended Ukrainian counter-UAS use; they do not by themselves document a specific dated combat firing in Ukraine.
