Direct proof of use
The M203 is documented in the 2001 War in Afghanistan through official U.S. military imagery from Helmand province. DVIDS recorded a U.S. Marine with Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines firing an M203 grenade launcher in Habib Abad on June 27, 2013, during a cordon-and-search operation intended to prevent and deter insurgent activity.
A second DVIDS record from Operation Grizzly on July 18, 2013, shows Lance Cpl. John J. McConnell of Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment loading his M203 after receiving enemy fire in Helmand province. The caption describes Operation Grizzly as a counter-insurgent operation to deter enemy activity, establish a presence, and gather human intelligence.

Timeline
On June 27, 2013, DVIDS documented an M203 being fired by a U.S. Marine in Habib Abad, Helmand province. The image was posted on July 6, 2013, and ties the launcher to a cordon-and-search operation by Marines from Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines.
On July 18, 2013, during Operation Grizzly, DVIDS documented a Marine loading an M203 after enemy fire. That source places the launcher in an active counter-insurgent patrol context in Helmand province rather than only in training or inventory service.

Narrative
In the documented Helmand cases, the M203 served as squad-level 40 mm grenade fire support for U.S. Marine infantry. The official images do not identify the grenade type, number of rounds fired, or specific targets beyond enemy contact and insurgent-activity context, but they do establish that U.S. Marines carried and used the launcher during Afghanistan operations in 2013.
The evidence supports use by the United States, NATO, and Afghan government side through U.S. Marine Corps units operating in Helmand. It does not by itself establish Afghan government use, Taliban use, total quantities in theater, or a complete list of M203-equipped units.
