Direct proof of use
Barak MX was used by Israel in the 2025 Israel-Iran Conflict as part of Operation Rising Lion's air-defense effort. Israel Aerospace Industries said Barak MX was deployed across land and sea during the operation, protecting vital assets and population centers in real time.
The IDF separately reported a naval engagement on June 16, 2025, in which Israeli Navy missile ships intercepted eight UAVs launched from Iran. In that account, the IDF said Barak Magen and the long-range air-defense system LRAD were operationally employed, and described Barak Magen as installed on an INS Sa'ar 6 missile ship.
IAI also described a land-based Barak air and missile defense system integrated by the Israeli Air Force during Operation Rising Lion. That account said the system intercepted dozens of threats from Iran in its first days of operational deployment and identified the tailored land configuration as using an IAI-ELTA MMR radar, IAI launchers, and LR and ER interceptors.

Timeline
On June 13, 2025, Israel opened Operation Rising Lion against Iran, beginning the direct Israel-Iran fighting tracked in this conflict record. Iranian missile and UAV retaliation made Israeli air and missile defense a central operational requirement during the following days.
On June 16, 2025, the IDF reported that Israeli Navy missile ships had intercepted eight UAVs launched from Iran overnight, and that Barak Magen and LRAD had been operationally employed. The IDF also said the flotilla had intercepted about 25 UAVs since the beginning of the operation.
On November 18, 2025, IAI published two post-operation accounts: one described Barak MX as deployed across land and sea during Operation Rising Lion, and the other described rapid Israeli Air Force integration of the land Barak system against Iranian-theater threats.

Narrative
The documented role of Barak MX in this conflict was defensive: protecting Israeli territory, naval forces, strategic assets, and civilian population centers from Iranian aerial threats. The naval evidence is tied to Sa'ar 6 missile ships and UAV interceptions, while IAI's land-system account emphasizes a rapidly integrated Israeli Air Force Barak battery built around MMR radar, IAI launchers, and LR and ER interceptors.
The sources distinguish operational use from export, procurement, or generic capability. Public conflict-use sources support Israeli operation of Barak MX-derived systems in land and naval configurations; they do not support Iranian possession, transfer to a third party, or use of Barak MX for offensive strike missions.
FPRI's later analysis of the June 2025 war places the Barak evidence within a wider Israeli and allied air-defense campaign against Iranian missiles and UAVs. That source does not identify Barak MX as the system behind specific interceptions, so this page uses it only for broader conflict context rather than direct Barak MX attribution.
