Ukraine's Defence Intelligence published a June 9, 2025 V2U disclosure stating that the Russian strike UAV was being actively used by Russian forces on the Sumy direction. The same disclosure tied the aircraft to a public War & Sanctions component record and described a strike drone built around LTE communications, imported commercial electronics, and onboard computing intended to support autonomous target search and selection.
Independent defense reporting corroborates the conflict-use setting. FDD's Long War Journal reported that V2U's first known combat employment occurred in Ukraine's Sumy region in February 2025 and that Russian use later increased. Defense Express likewise reported episodic use from February 2025 and a marked increase from May. The Defense Post and Euromaidan Press both connected the public Ukrainian intelligence disclosure to V2U attacks or operation in the Sumy area.

Battlefield role
The V2U is documented as a Russian loitering munition, not a reusable reconnaissance UAV. War & Sanctions lists the system as a barrage UAV with a 1.2 m wingspan, one-hour flight time, 60 km/h cruise speed, electric motor, 3.5 kg payload, LTE two-way communication, and possible automatic targeting. Defense Express describes a pneumatic catapult launch and observed KOFZBCh-series warhead examples in the roughly 3 kg class, while FDD identifies a KOFZBCh-3 warhead on reported examples.
The public record points to use against targets in northeastern Ukraine, especially the Sumy axis, while leaving some incident details unresolved. GUR says the drone can use FPV control through LTE and likely computer-vision navigation when satellite navigation is degraded; FDD and Defense Express summarize those findings as a Russian attempt to improve loitering-munition performance under Ukrainian electronic-warfare pressure.
