Direct proof of use
The Eurocopter Tiger was fielded in Afghanistan by NATO contributors during the 2001 War in Afghanistan. Airbus states that the French Army first deployed Tiger helicopters to Afghanistan in 2009, and the French Army aviation history site records three Tigers from the 5e Regiment d'helicopteres de combat arriving at Kabul International Airport on July 26, 2009, followed by a first Afghanistan flight on July 27.
German and Spanish Tiger deployments followed in 2012-2013. An Airbus Helicopters press release reported that German Tiger UHT helicopters modified to the ASGARD Afghanistan configuration began deploying in December 2012 and started operations around Mazar-e-Sharif a month later. Spanish Army records state that BHELA I deployed three HA-28 Tigre helicopters in Afghanistan from March 17 to November 12, 2013, with a main mission of supporting and protecting the Spanish troop withdrawal from Qala-i-Naw to Herat.

Timeline
The French detachment established the Tiger's first Afghanistan deployment in July 2009. The aircraft were moved through Tarbes and Kabul, then photographed flying around Kabul in late July and early August.
Germany adapted its Tiger UHT fleet for Afghanistan through the ASGARD configuration, including sand filters, additional ballistic protection, mission-data recording, and enhanced communications for multinational missions. The German ASGARD Tigers had accumulated more than 1,000 German-service flight hours by early 2014.
Spain's HA-28 Tigre deployment was tied to the final Spanish ISAF drawdown. Spanish Army news before the deployment said the helicopters were being prepared for transfer to Herat and would protect the Spanish withdrawal; a later unit history records the deployment dates and the withdrawal-security role.

Narrative
In Afghanistan, the Tiger served as an attack-helicopter and armed-reconnaissance asset for NATO-side forces rather than as a transferred Afghan platform. Airbus describes the type as suited to armed reconnaissance, escort, ground fire support, destruction, and anti-tank warfare; its Afghanistan record fits that broader support role.
The French deployment put Tiger HAP helicopters into ISAF service from Kabul in 2009. The available official and service-history sources document arrival, first flights, and Afghanistan deployment, while later Airbus material summarizes the French Army's 2009 deployment as the Tiger's first operational Afghanistan use.
German and Spanish use widened the Afghanistan record beyond the French detachment. Germany fielded ASGARD-modified Tiger UHTs for support of ground troops, convoy protection, and reconnaissance from Mazar-e-Sharif. Spain deployed three HA-28 Tigres as part of ASPUHEL and ASPFOR, principally to support and protect the Spanish withdrawal movement from Qala-i-Naw to Herat.
