Documented Use

Direct proof of use

Dozor-B use in the 2014 Russia-Ukraine War is documented first as Ukrainian military fielding rather than as a single named battle. In July 2016, Defence Blog reported Ukroboronprom statements that 10 Dozor-B vehicles had been manufactured, accepted by military representative offices in Kharkiv and Lviv, and declared ready for further military use by Ukrainian forces.

The same vehicle lineage appears later through the Oncilla, a Polish-produced derivative based on the Ukrainian Dozor-B design. Defence Blog reported in March 2023 that Ukraine's Defence Intelligence Directorate received an Oncilla from Poland and quoted a Beryl Design Bureau representative saying 30 such vehicles were already in service and had performed well on the battlefield. Defense Express then reported in January 2024 that Oncilla APCs were actively used by Ukrainian Defense Forces on the battlefield, including with the Liut Brigade.

Further direct support comes from the manufacturer and Ukraine's Ministry of Defence. MISTA says more than 200 4x4 Oncilla vehicles had been delivered for Ukrainian Armed Forces needs and checked during combat tasks in the war with Russia. In November 2024, Ukraine's Ministry of Defence announced that the Oncilla-Shturm armored personnel carrier had been codified and adopted for Ukrainian Armed Forces operation.

Timeline

The public chronology begins with a limited Ukrainian Dozor-B batch accepted during the conflict's Donbas phase, then shifts to wartime Oncilla deliveries and battlefield use during the full-scale invasion.

In December 2023, Euromaidan Press reported that scouts of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine received two upgraded Dozor-B vehicles developed by Kharkiv engineers. In January 2024, Defense Express tied Oncilla battlefield use to the Liut Brigade and to expected further deliveries. By late 2024, Ukraine's Ministry of Defence had approved the Oncilla-Shturm for operation, and by 2025 Euromaidan Press reported continued Ukrainian-soldier feedback and additional planned Oncilla deliveries.

Battlefield role

Across the cited record, the Dozor-B family is used as a protected mobility and support platform for Ukrainian forces. The early Dozor-B reporting describes a 4x4 armored vehicle for special units in military, reconnaissance, medical, and command modifications, armed with a 12.7 mm machine-gun installation and intended to protect personnel from small-arms fire, fragments, mines, and contaminated environments.

Oncilla reporting places the derivative in active frontline service rather than only procurement. Defense Express described Liut Brigade use and cited Ukrainian soldiers emphasizing mobility and cross-country performance. MISTA describes the family as carrying soldiers to task areas, providing fire support during fighting, and conducting reconnaissance, patrol, and combat tasks. The Oncilla-Shturm approval added a remote weapon station with a heavy machine gun and framed the vehicle as a protected platform for diverse Ukrainian military tasks.

The sources do not support treating every Dozor-B and Oncilla event as the same production batch. The compact conflict record therefore groups the Dozor-B family by design lineage while distinguishing the initial Ukrainian Dozor-B acceptance, later upgraded Kharkiv-built Dozor-B vehicles, and Polish-built Oncilla variants.
