Direct proof of use
Barak-8 appears in the 2025 Israel-Iran Conflict through Israeli use of Barak-family air-defense systems against Iranian aerial threats. The Jerusalem Post reported that the IDF intercepted a drone in Israeli territory on June 20, 2025, with the Barak medium-range surface-to-air missile system during the Iran missile and drone attack period.
The clearest official naval evidence came on June 16, 2025, when the IDF said Israeli Navy missile ships intercepted eight UAVs launched from Iran and that Barak Magen and the long-range air-defense system LRAD had been operationally employed. The IDF described Barak Magen as installed on the INS Sa'ar 6 missile ship, placing the engagement in an Israeli naval air-defense context.
IAI later described the broader Operation Rising Lion Barak employment as a land-and-sea defensive layer. One IAI account said Barak MX was deployed across land and sea during the operation, while another described an Israeli Air Force land Barak configuration that intercepted dozens of threats from Iran in its first days of operational deployment.

Timeline
On June 13, 2025, Israel opened Operation Rising Lion against Iran, and Iran retaliated with missile and UAV attacks against Israel. That air-defense environment created the setting for subsequent Barak-family engagements.
On June 16, the IDF reported the first operational employment of Barak Magen and LRAD from Israeli Navy missile ships against UAVs launched from Iran. On June 20, Israeli reporting identified a Barak medium-range surface-to-air missile system intercepting a drone in Israeli territory as Iran continued missile barrages against Israel.
On November 18, 2025, IAI published post-operation accounts describing Barak MX deployment across land and sea and the rapid integration of a land Barak system by the Israeli Air Force during Operation Rising Lion.

Operational role
The supported role was air defense and force protection. Public sources connect Barak-family systems to interception of UAVs and other threats from Iran, protection of Israeli territory and population centers, and naval defense from Sa'ar 6 missile ships. They do not support Barak-8 use by Iran or any offensive strike role in this conflict.
The sources use overlapping Barak terminology. The June 20 report names the Barak medium-range surface-to-air missile system, while the official naval account names Barak Magen and LRAD and IAI's later material places those systems under the Barak MX family. This record treats the evidence as Barak-8-family use because the parent weapon entry covers Barak-8, MRSAM/LR-SAM, and later Barak MX family terminology.
