Thyssen-Henschel

Thyssen-Henschel was a German armored-vehicle manufacturer associated with Kassel and the Thyssen-Henschel/Henschel Wehrtechnik land-systems line. Its Cold War defense work is most visible in the Marder infantry fighting vehicle production program and the Argentine TAM armored-vehicle family, before the defense engineering business was sold and the Henschel land-systems activity passed into Rheinmetall's armored-vehicle organization.

The company's catalog relevance comes from German tracked armored vehicles and export-derived armored-vehicle engineering rather than from a current standalone corporate presence. Rheinmetall's Marder history identifies Kassel as Thyssen-Henschel's corporate seat at the first production Marder handover on 7 May 1971, while its later product pages keep the Marder family within Rheinmetall Landsysteme's tracked-vehicle continuity.

Thyssen-Henschel also exported Marder-based engineering into Argentina. Rheinmetall's Marder history says Thyssen-Henschel succeeded in exporting the vehicle concept to Argentina in 1977 as the Tanque Argentino Mediano, and Tank Encyclopedia describes a 1974 Argentine agreement under which Thyssen-Henschel and Argentine technicians designed the TAM around Argentine mobility, weight, firepower, and production requirements.
