Bharat Dynamics Limited is a Ministry of Defence public-sector undertaking incorporated on 16 July 1970 to serve as India's manufacturing base for guided missile systems and allied equipment. BDL says it works with DRDO and foreign original equipment manufacturers for missile and allied-equipment supply to the Indian Armed Forces, and its annual report describes surface-to-air, air-to-air, anti-tank, torpedo, and allied defence equipment lines.
BDL's 2024-25 annual report places the corporate office in Hyderabad and lists manufacturing units at Kanchanbagh in Hyderabad, Bhanur in Telangana's Sangareddy district, and Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, with additional facilities being set up at Amaravati, Ibrahimpatnam, and Jhansi. The same report says BDL had 2,269 employees on 31 March 2025, reported net sales turnover of Rs 3,345 crore for 2024-25, and had begun exporting selected defence equipment.
The company's milestones trace a shift from early licensed anti-tank missile production to a broader guided-weapon and underwater-weapons production base: first-generation ATGM production in 1971, prime production agency status for the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme in 1983, strategic missile production in 1994, lightweight torpedo production in 2001, LRSAM and heavy-weight torpedo production-agency work in 2008, Akash handover in 2015, LRSAM handover in 2017, and MRSAM handover in 2019.
