Direct proof of use
Ukraine's Ministry of Defence said on 2 April 2025 that Wolly was officially codified, was being procured for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and had proven effective on the front lines in real combat conditions. The same article described Wolly as a remote-controlled weapon station for a 7.62 mm PKT machine gun, used at strongpoints, checkpoints, observation posts, and firing positions for target engagement and remote battlefield surveillance.
Espreso's March 2025 Russia-Ukraine war reporting also described Wolly 7.62 as deployed at defensive positions, checkpoints, observation points, and firing positions, and said DevDroid had stated in summer 2024 that Ukrainian forces had already deployed Wolly robotic turrets on the front lines.

Timeline
The available public timeline starts with wartime development rather than a disclosed first combat incident. The Ministry of Defence said development began in 2022, initial trials followed in 2023, and the design incorporated real combat experience.
Public procurement and fielding claims appear before formal codification. Espreso reported that the Ministry of Defence had contracted 40 Wolly machine-gun turrets in summer 2024 and that DevDroid said Ukrainian forces had already deployed them on the front lines. On 21 December 2024, the Ministry of Defence announced that Wolly had been codified and adopted for use by the Defence Forces.

Role in Ukrainian service
Wolly's documented conflict role is defensive and force-protection oriented. MoD and Ukrainian reporting describe it as a remotely operated machine-gun station that lets an operator control and fire from a protected location rather than occupying the exposed gun position.
The system is also documented as a surveillance aid. MoD reporting says Wolly is used for remote battlefield surveillance at strongpoints and similar positions, while Espreso quoted DevDroid founder Yuriy Poritskyi saying the system can be left at a position to monitor movement and alert the operator.

Documented effects and limits
The Ministry of Defence attributed confirmed front-line engagements beyond 900 meters to Wolly and described intended targets as enemy personnel and unarmored vehicles. Espreso listed a maximum effective range of up to 1,000 meters and a control range of up to 100 meters.
Public sources do not identify a specific brigade-level user for Wolly 7.62 in the cataloged conflict-use claim, and they do not give a complete unit-by-unit deployment record. The supported claim is therefore Ukrainian fielding and use in front-line defensive and surveillance roles, not a comprehensive order of battle.
