Direct proof of use
The SPICE 2000/Mk 84 configuration is directly documented in Israeli use in the 2023 Israel-Hamas War through public strike videos, expert identification, and Gaza munition records. Business Insider reported that videos published on December 2 and December 4, 2023 showed SPICE-2000 guided bombs used by the Israeli Air Force in Gaza, and quoted Marc Garlasco identifying the munitions as 2,000-pound Mark 84 bombs fitted with SPICE kits.
The Open Source Munitions Portal separately records OSMP 1414 as a December 4, 2023 Gaza case involving an air-delivered, guided SPICE 2000/Mk 84-series munition in the 2,000-pound class. OSMP 1415 records another Gaza SPICE 2000/Mk 84-series whole, unfunctioned munition dated May 24, 2024.

In this conflict, the documented role was Israeli air-to-surface strike use in the Gaza Strip, not transfer to another side or capture by Hamas and Gaza-based armed groups. The documented configuration combined a 2,000-pound Mk 84-series bomb body with a SPICE 2000 guidance kit. Business Insider described SPICE as an Israeli-developed kit that converts unguided air-to-ground bombs into precision-guided munitions, and Rafael's product page describes SPICE 1000/2000 as an autonomous standoff air-to-surface family with electro-optical scene-matching guidance and GPS-independent navigation.
The public record does not establish how many SPICE 2000/Mk 84 weapons Israel used in Gaza. Business Insider noted that crater size alone cannot distinguish SPICE from JDAM or other Mk 84 guidance configurations; OSMP 751 similarly relies on a remnant and associated crater context for its September 2024 SPICE 2000-kit assessment.
