Direct proof of use
The MOWAG Piranha's documented use in the 2001 War in Afghanistan centers on Denmark's ISAF contingent. The Danish Armed Forces state that Denmark used Piranha 3 vehicles from the mid-1990s and that the type was deployed in Afghanistan, among other theaters.
Danish Armed Forces material on the Helmand battle group identifies the Danish battle-group period as February 14, 2008 to February 11, 2012. A separate 2007 Gardehusarregimentet article about ISAF Hold 5 says the coming Danish force would include one Piranha company as one of its two combat sub-units.

In August 2007, Danish preparations for ISAF Hold 5 named a Piranha company in the force package scheduled to deploy to Helmand in February 2008. The article described a roughly 540-soldier Danish force built around 1st Armoured Infantry Battalion from Slagelse, with a Piranha company from the battalion as one combat element.
The Danish Armed Forces' Afghanistan battle-group overview places complete Danish battle groups in Afghanistan from 2008 to 2012 and describes their work with Afghan kandaks on combat, stabilization, and training tasks in Helmand. In June 2010, a Danish Army memorial article reported that a Danish soldier was serving as gunner in one of the patrol's Piranha vehicles when it was struck by an improvised explosive device.

Danish material identifies Piranha vehicles as part of infantry-company and patrol activity, while the broader battle-group page describes Danish operations in Afghanistan as combat, stabilization, and training work alongside Afghan units.
A 2023 Danish Armed Forces materiel page describes the later Piranha 5 as Denmark's current armored personnel carrier and separately notes that the earlier Piranha 3 had been deployed in Afghanistan. For this conflict page, that statement is used only to support Danish Piranha 3 deployment in Afghanistan; it does not imply Piranha 5 service in the war.
