Direct proof of use
FAB-250 UMPK use in the 2014 Russia-Ukraine War is documented through Ukrainian strike reporting and defense analysis of Russia's glide-bomb campaign. Defence Express reported in November 2023 that photos showed Russian FAB-250 bombs converted into guided aerial bombs with the UMPK module, after earlier summer 2023 use of FAB-250-based guided aerial bombs for strikes in eastern Ukraine.
Specific incident reporting later identified the weapon in Donetsk Oblast. Ukrainska Pravda, citing Donetsk Oblast police and prosecutors, reported that Russian forces used a FAB-250 bomb with a UMPK kit against Kostiantynivka on 18 September 2025. The same outlet, citing the Donetsk Oblast Prosecutor's Office, reported that Russian forces struck Sloviansk on 16 June 2026 with a FAB-250 guided aerial bomb equipped with UMPK kits.

Narrative
The FAB-250 UMPK is part of Russia's broader conversion of Soviet-era FAB-series bombs into stand-off glide munitions. The Joint Air Power Competence Centre describes UMPK as a conversion kit strapped to FAB-series bombs and says Russian forces use glide bombs in Ukraine to release heavy ordnance from outside many short-range air-defense envelopes, primarily from tactical aircraft such as Su-34s.
In this conflict record, the strongest claim is direct Russian use of FAB-250 bombs fitted with UMPK kits in Ukraine. The available sources support the Russian side, a stand-off strike and fire-support role, and named 2025-2026 incidents in Donetsk Oblast. They do not identify every release aircraft for the FAB-250 incidents, so carrier details are kept at the broader FAB-series UMPK level.
