Direct proof of use
DevDroid said the Droid NW 40 passed Ukraine's Ministry of Defense codification procedure, opening the way for official supply to and use by Ukraine's security and defense forces in the Russia-Ukraine war. UNITED24 and dev.ua reported the same approval and described the system as a domestically built reconnaissance-strike ground robot armed with a 40 mm Mk-19 or AGL-53 automatic grenade launcher.
The public record supports formal fielding and intended combat use by Ukrainian forces, not a separately verified Droid NW 40 strike incident. Reporting on other DevDroid ground robots shows the wider battlefield context for Ukrainian armed UGVs, but those incidents should not be treated as Droid NW 40 engagements.

Timeline
On December 23, 2025, DevDroid announced that official codification had approved the Droid NW 40 for service with Ukraine's Defense Forces. UNITED24 reported the approval the following day, adding that codification allowed formal supply and use by Ukraine's security and defense forces.
Join Ukraine Army reported on January 15, 2026, that Ukrainian manufacturers had completed the Droid NW 40 and presented it to the military department as a reconnaissance and strike ground robotic complex. DevDroid later published a fuller April 2026 product notice describing the codification, launcher fit, communications package, and remote employment concept.

Narrative
In Ukrainian service context, the Droid NW 40 is presented as a remote fire-support and surveillance platform. DevDroid's catalog describes a tracked ground robotic complex combining a Wolly 40 combat module, a Droid Box control system, and a 40 mm Mk-19 grenade launcher fit. UNITED24 and dev.ua describe the fielded version as adapted for either Mk-19 or AGL-53 launchers and intended to engage light armored targets, unarmored vehicles, personnel, and firing positions while also conducting remote battlefield surveillance.
The system's conflict significance comes from the formal approval of a grenade-launcher UGV for Ukrainian forces rather than from a documented high-volume deployment. Business Insider reported that it was unclear how widely Droid NW 40 would be used or how many could be manufactured, while noting that Ukrainian ground robots were still a small share of drone missions. The strongest sourced claims therefore remain approval, formal supply/use eligibility, and its reconnaissance-strike role for Ukraine.
