Direct proof of use
Defense Express reported that the press service of Ukraine's 92nd Mechanized Brigade published a Drivers' Day photo set on October 27, 2023, including a Ukrainian serviceman beside a BREM-4 armored recovery vehicle. The same article said open-media searches showed another BREM-4 appearance by the 92nd Brigade in spring 2023 during fighting against Russian forces in eastern Ukraine.
Oryx separately listed BREM-4K and BREM-4RM armored recovery vehicles among Ukrainian equipment types known to be in use on the battlefield and not yet confirmed destroyed or captured as of its March 2023 Ukrainian equipment inventory. Together, those sources support a narrow conclusion: BREM-4-family recovery vehicles were fielded by Ukraine in the war, with documented 92nd Brigade appearances in 2023.

Timeline
Ukrainian service context predates the full-scale invasion. Ukrinform reported in September 2016 that Ukrainian forces showed OSCE representatives recently accepted equipment at Desna, including BTR-4E, BTR-4K, BREM-4RM, and BMM-4S vehicles. Ukrainian Military Pages later reported a 2021 Ministry of Defense contract with KMDB for BTR-4-family vehicles that included one BREM-4RM recovery vehicle.
The conflict-use record becomes more direct in 2023. Oryx listed BREM-4K and BREM-4RM recovery vehicles in March 2023 as Ukrainian systems in use, while Defense Express reported a spring 2023 BREM-4 image from the 92nd Brigade during fighting in eastern Ukraine and a second 92nd Brigade photo appearance around Drivers' Day in October 2023.

Recovery role
The documented wartime role was support rather than direct fire. Defense Express described the BREM-4 as a BTR-4-chassis vehicle used to evacuate damaged equipment from the front line, lift heavy cargo, dig, support maintenance and field repair, and help start vehicle engines with electric or pneumatic systems.
Archived KMDB material identifies BREM-4K as the BTR-4 family's repair-and-recovery version and lists a crane, winch, welding equipment, and towing equipment. In the 2014 Russia-Ukraine War record, those capabilities explain why the catalog row groups the vehicle under mobility and logistics: the source-backed battlefield role is recovery, maintenance, and vehicle-support work for Ukrainian units.

Designation limits
Open sources use several close designations for this BTR-4-family recovery vehicle, including BREM-4K, BREM-4M, and BREM-4RM. The strongest conflict-specific reporting uses BREM-4 for 92nd Brigade wartime appearances, while Oryx lists BREM-4K and BREM-4RM separately and Ukrainian procurement reporting names BREM-4RM.
Because those labels are applied to closely related BTR-4-based armored recovery vehicles, the page treats the evidence as BREM-4-family use by Ukraine and avoids a stronger claim about exact subvariant quantities or unit inventory.
