Direct proof of use
The Bergepanzer 2 is documented in the 2014 Russia-Ukraine War through German government and Rheinmetall transfer records rather than a single public battlefield incident report. Germany's archived Ukraine aid list, current to 17 April 2025, listed 28 Bergepanzer 2 vehicles with spare parts as delivered to Ukraine under engineering capabilities.
Rheinmetall separately stated in June 2026 that Germany had previously handed over 21 Bergepanzer 2 vehicles and two Bergepanzer 3 vehicles to Ukraine before ordering replacement recovery vehicles for the Bundeswehr. The same release described these systems as armored recovery and support vehicles, placing the BPz 2 transfer in the support role for Ukrainian armored forces.

Timeline
Germany publicly added Bergepanzer 2 vehicles to the Ukraine support pipeline during 2023. On 11 July 2023, the German Federal Ministry of Defence announced the Vilnius package and identified five Bergepanzer 2 vehicles for the Ukrainian armed forces from industry stocks, industrial overhaul, or production.
On 14 November 2023, Rheinmetall said a German-financed Leopard 1 systems order for Ukraine included five BPz 2 recovery vehicles, training, logistics, spare parts, repair, and other support services, with delivery planned for 2024. By the archived German government list dated 17 April 2025, the delivered total had reached 28 Bergepanzer 2 vehicles with spare parts.

Role in Ukrainian service
The public record ties the Bergepanzer 2 to Ukraine's armored-vehicle support chain rather than to direct combat. It was supplied alongside Leopard 1-related packages and listed by Germany under engineering capabilities, with spare parts and support services included in the documented packages.
That evidence supports a mobility, logistics, and recovery role: keeping armored units recoverable, repairable, and supportable as donated Western armored vehicles entered Ukrainian service. The available official sources document transfer and fielding context, but they do not identify individual recovery missions, units, or front-line locations for Bergepanzer 2 vehicles.
