Badr-1P use in the 2014 Yemen Civil War is documented through missile-event reporting, Houthi-aligned media material analyzed by open-source investigators, and later UN-linked reporting on the same guided rocket family. CSIS Missile Threat reported that Houthi forces revealed the Badr P-1 in late October 2018 and, on November 2, launched a possible Badr-1 variant reported as the Badr P-1 toward Najran; Houthi media said it struck a coalition encampment, while coalition reporting said the missile was intercepted.
DFRLab separately analyzed Houthi video released after the unveiling and reported that Houthi forces launched a Badr P-1 near Hudaydah against a Sudanese military encampment. In 2021, Al Jazeera reported a UN panel finding that the December 30, 2020 Aden airport attack used precision-guided, short-distance surface-to-surface missiles likely representing an extended-range Badr-1P version, fired from Houthi-controlled locations.

Timeline
The guided variant appeared publicly at the end of October 2018. CSIS reported the Houthi presentation of an alleged guided Badr-1 variant, called Badr P-1, with a claimed guidance system and three-meter circular error probable. The CSIS Yemen update then recorded a November 2 launch toward Najran, identifying the weapon as a possible Badr-1 variant reported as Badr P-1.
DFRLab's February 2019 analysis covered the first claimed use near Hudaydah, based on Houthi video released on October 29, 2018 and captioned as an October 27 strike. The later Aden airport case expanded the public record beyond 2018: Al Jazeera's account of the UN panel report said missiles likely related to an extended-range Badr-1P struck Aden airport on December 30, 2020.

In Yemen-war service, the Badr-1P was a Houthi-aligned precision-guided follow-on to the Badr-1 artillery rocket family. CSIS's Missile War in Yemen study describes the Badr 1-P as an improved variant unveiled in October 2018 with guidance fins and a reported 130 km range, while IISS describes the Badr-1P as a locally built precision-guided solid-propellant missile variant in the Houthi arsenal.
The documented roles were precision or long-range surface-to-surface strikes against coalition or government-linked targets rather than close battlefield fire support. Reported target contexts include Najran across the Saudi border, the al-Mostahaddeth area near Hudaydah in western Yemen, and Aden airport during the arrival of Yemen's internationally recognized government's cabinet.
The evidence is uneven. The November 2018 Najran event is reported by CSIS as a possible Badr-1 variant identified in media as Badr P-1, with opposing Houthi and coalition claims about whether it hit or was intercepted. The Hudaydah event rests on Houthi video and DFRLab's open-source analysis. The Aden airport attribution comes through reporting on a UN panel assessment and describes a likely extended-range Badr-1P version rather than a complete recovered Badr-1P missile.
